Breast Reduction Surgery in the Dallas and Fort Worth Area

For many women, overly large, heavy breasts can be a source of both physical and emotional discomfort. It is not uncommon for women with larger breasts to experience chronic pain in the neck, shoulders, and back as well as embarrassment and self-consciousness. To reduce or eliminate these symptoms, many women undergo a reduction mammaplasty, more commonly known as breast reduction. Serving the Dallas / Fort Worth area, Dr. Alfred Antonetti offers quality breast reduction for women who want to lead a more comfortable and carefree lifestyle.

Breast Reduction Candidates

The best candidates for breast reduction surgery typically include women in otherwise good general health who constantly suffer from neck pain, shoulder pain, and other symptoms that result from having larger breasts. It is also common for women with overly large breasts to experience difficulty finding flattering clothing that fits their bust lines, and many complain that their physical activities are limited due to their heavy breasts. Because surgical breast reduction can damage milk-producing ducts and glands, women who are breastfeeding or who are planning to breastfeed may wish to postpone the procedure. During a private consultation with Dr. Antonetti, women can have all of their questions about breast reduction answered and find out whether they are suitable candidates for this life-enhancing surgery.

The Breast Reduction Procedure

Dr. Antonetti performs breast reduction surgery at our surgical center, conveniently located for residents of Fort Worth and surrounding Texas communities. Because all procedures are carefully tailored to suit each individual, the details of the surgery may vary from patient to patient. However, breast reduction surgery generally involves the removal of breast tissue, fat, and excess skin. The nipple and areola are usually moved to a higher position and may be reduced in size, if necessary. Depending on a patient's needs, liposuction may be used to remove fat and improve the overall contour of the breasts.

After Breast Reduction Surgery

By carefully following the instructions provided to them, patients can decrease their risk of post-surgical complications and facilitate the recovery process. After breast reduction surgery, patients may experience swelling and tenderness in the breasts. This is normal and usually subsides in a few weeks. Although many women are able to return to work in around two weeks after undergoing breast reduction surgery, heavy lifting or other strenuous activities should be avoided for several weeks.
